“Even before I had a family of my own, I saw a lot of Cathy’s work on Facebook as several of my friends have used her for their pictures. When I got pregnant, I knew I wanted maternity pics and I knew who I wanted to have take them. Having not gotten any professional pictures taken since going to Sears or Olan Mills as a child, I was so unaware of the process and I waited too long to book her so I missed the opportunity to get my maternity photos with her, but was still able to book a newborn shoot so I was happy. I live in Tampa and we commissioned a local photographer to take the maternity pics. Like I said, I didn’t really know what to expect as it had been so long, but they turned out fine, though I had nothing to which I could compare the experience.
Fast forward to baby’s arrival. I was so naive to think that I would be up and running 6 days after having a baby, that I would be feeling good enough to make an almost 2 hour car ride to Ocala after having a c section, that I would feel beautiful enough to be in the pictures with my baby. I let Cathy know that I didn’t really feel up to taking the pictures myself but we were bringing the baby.
Upon arriving to the AGP studio, Cathy and her assistant had everything set up from clothes and bows, to back drops, snacks and drinks, changing table, and a big comfy couch. My daughter was fussy and didn’t want to fall asleep. I watched as Cathy patiently held and rocked and shushed her to sleep and then got to work. My new mommy hormones could not handle it and I cried silently for probably 75% of the time they were shooting. Some just because that’s what postpartum moms do, some because of sleep deprivation, and some because my baby looked so beautiful!
They finished shooting with the baby and Cathy convinced us to get in a couple of pictures with our daughter. I mentioned that I had been crying and my eyes didn’t look good. Cathy said she would take care of it. During this maybe 10 min of taking family pictures, it felt like Cathy knew what I needed to hear. She kept saying how beautiful we were and showing her excitement about the pictures she was taking. Now one of those family photos sits on our TV stand in our living room and I look at it every day. It has become one of my favorite photos and a reminder to me as to why I will always make that trip to Ocala to get pictures taken. Cathy captures beautiful photos, but also creates beautiful memories during these sessions.
Now that we have shot with her several times, I could say so many more great things. Having now had the AGP experience, I can honestly say it far exceeds the experience we had for the maternity shoot. Cathy is a true artist, a genuine person, and I highly recommend her to any and everyone looking for a photographer.
